Elijah's Angel: A Story for Chanukah and Christmas
Published in School & Library Binding by Harcourt Children's Books (October, 1992)
Authors: Michael Rosen and Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson
Average review score:

Dark in Parts
I ordered this book for my 6 year old grand daughter. Though it is a wonderful story, I personally felt that the discussion of hanging the blacks was too dark for the child's book and I returned it. I read the book and felt unfortable giving it, so I had my husband read it, he agreed. Though the truth of the history of the blacks cannot be hid, it really was not needed in this story of friendship.

We read this every year.
This is a wonderful story that I read aloud to my children every year on Chanukkah. They love it and so do I.

One of the best illustrators living
I am such a huge Aminah Robinson (the illustrator) fan! Be sure to check out all of the books she has illustrated. And don't even think about buying any of them in paperback. The heart and soul that she obviously puts in to her drawings will move you to tears. This is one of my favorites. The Amazon review does a good job explaining the story to you. It really resonates with all ages. One bit of trivia I can give you is that Aminah herself was a personal friend of Elijah Pierce.

The New Settlement Cookbook
Published in Hardcover by Smithmark Publishing (September, 1997)
Author: Charles Pierce
Average review score:

A disappointment-
I still refer to my original settlement cookbook. I don't like the way the new book is organized. I don't feel as if it is a quick reference guide which I was hoping because that is how I use my first version. Menus aren't simple and don't help me as a working mom.

Best all around cookbook EVER
This was my first cookbook forty years ago...it is now frayed, cover gone, corners dog-eared, but the "meat" of the book still in tact. WE STILL USE IT! Now my daughter is 20 and out on her own...so what better gift than her own personal copy! I keep telling her anyone can cook a good meal from this book...it even tells you how to boil water, make coffee. It walks you through making sandwiches to serving a gormet meal. How many cookbooks can bost of that?!!!

1951:This was my mother's first cookbook after she married .
This is a fabulous cookbook! I have made many of the recipes and they always come out as they are supposed to come out. Very yummy, and what I like best is that it goes way back and has ties to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the United States. (Although it is not a kosher book).

Spiderman and Fantastic Four Wreckage (Doom's Day Book, 3)
Published in Paperback by Boulevard (Mass Market) (November, 1997)
Authors: Eric Fein, Pierce Askergren, Steven Butler, and Pierce Askegren
Average review score:

Good Book but it was slow in some places
Although this last book in the Doom's Day trilogy was good for the most part, some of the story slows down in a few places like when Doom's plan is finally revealed and when the final battle takes place. It seems the last fight took forever to resolve and it is somewhat disapointing, but the epiloge makes up for it. Still for the most part, it was an enjoyable book.

Good Book To End The Doom's Day Trilogy
This book starts off with action as Doctor Octopus is freed from prison. Then it declines and picks up with an exciting finish. Spider-Man Readers will love this book for its fast-paced action.

Good Book
I have read this book and I think it's great. Although I think there is a hole in the plot because Dr. Doom is the kind of guy who would not ask for anyone's help regardless of their expertise, he probably would have known the stuff himself

Beading on a Loom (Beadwork How-To)
Published in Paperback by Interweave Press (August, 1999)
Author: Don Pierce
Average review score:

NOT for a beginner
There are no simple projects here. From the outset, the book will discourage the beginner with the complexity of the 17th-20th century beaded items shown, although I enjoyed studying the photos of complicated beadwork on European purses, African Masai, Seneca, Winnebago, and other Native American pieces. Don's projects, in spite of detailed instructions, are going to require a lot of effort, even from an expert. There is plenty of inspiration from the 37-page gallery at the book's end. If you are intent on tackling loom weaving at its most complex, here is your book.

Beading on a Loom
This is a nice book with great pictures. However, I think it is important to note that if you are searching for a beginner's how to loom book, this might not be a good starting point. The author does include many patterns and some lovely photos of exquisite loomwork, but the patterns are for folks who have some loom experience behind them.

Very helpful
As someone who has been loom beading since the age of 5, I look at beading books very skeptically. I found NEW techniques in this book. This book is well written, well diagramed and useful to beginning and experienced loom beaders. It is well worth the purchase.

Poems of Divorce
Published in Paperback by Vantage Press (November, 2002)
Author: Mike Pierce
Average review score:

Poems of Divorce
The mix of deep thinking with heart felt emotion was very delicately handled. The sadness and loss really hit me in the gut. This work made me think about my life and what I have.

The Chill factor !
As a book reviewer, one looks for what they call the "chill factor". That is when you see or read something that really makes you get chills down your neck or back. This book did just that, it gave me chills thoughout the book when reading certain poems. The writer really hits the chill factor spot with an honest
approach to describe his feelings. I really enjoyed the way he opened his heart and mind to his true feelings. Good book.

hitting home
I feel that the writer is touching on something deep inside of us that are divorced and for those who will be. I enjoyed the book because it helped me realize that i must move on and learn from the experience of being divorce.

The Unofficial Guide to the World's Best Diving Vacations
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (April, 2001)
Authors: Jean Pierce and Brenda Fine
Average review score:

SUBJECTIVE VIEWS, INTERESTING CHOICES, GOOD SUGGESTIONS
A diver for just two years, I have already used this Unofficial Guide on at least three occasions. Yes, the choices presented are highly subjective (as most diving guides tend to be), but there are a wide range of locales and choices to get one started. I have begun all of my diving vacations by referring first to this guide...then researching more thoroughly on the internet. Usually, I end up using one of the dive operators and diving resorts which the book has suggested and finish the process by making reservations via the internet or by phone. If you enjoy reading more comprehensively about diving before making your decision, look elsewhere...if you are like me and prefer to glance at something more condensed or capsulized, check out "World's Best Diving Vacations."

Right On Information!
I found this book to be incrediably useful. I purchased the guide book before my trip to North Carolina and found the detail about Nitrox availability, camera friendly dive boats, and dive shops to be right on the mark! I've never seen this kind of detail available in any other diving guide book.
I definatley recommend this book to any diver planning a diving vacation.
Kuddos to Jean Pierce for this great guide book!

Interesting and Informative
This book is a must have for anyone traveling to diving/snorkeling destinations. My husband and I recently used it while traveling to Long Island Bahamas. Information on lodging, restaurants and points of interest were right on the mark. We have recommended this book to friends who found it very useful also.

Divers and non-divers alike would benefit from this guide. The author writes in an informative and interesting style, giving personal and historical information. It is enjoyable and easy to read. I pick it up for pleasure to read about places I want to travel to in the future.

This guide makes it possible to travel with confidence to completely unfamiliar places, knowing what to expect when you get there. Don't go diving without it.

Illuminated Manuscripts: Treasures of the Pierpont Morgan Library New York (Tiny Folios Series)
Published in Hardcover by Abbeville Press, Inc. (October, 1998)
Authors: William M. Voelkle, Susan L'Engle, Charles E. Pierce, and William M. Vockle
Average review score:

Ok! So You Like Illuminated Manuscripts.
This book is good, not great. Its to small and many of the illistrations are too small, and hard to see. But for the money its worth it. They have many other books that are a bit better than this one. Here is one that is very good 'Masterpieces of the J.Paul Getty Museum Illuminated Manuscripts'. This book is awesome with easy to read text and wonderful pictures. Happy Reading.

A wealth of good stuff in a small package
This is one of my favorite illumination books. Being a practicing illuminator, I need photos much more than I need lengthy discussions, historical analyses, elaborate provenance notes, etc. They have to be color photos and they have to be large enough, and at a high enough resolution, that I can learn something from them--and maybe even copy an initial, a diapering pattern, a bit of the border, or more.

This book satisfies all these criteria. In fact, the only thing I dislike about this book is the fact that it's so small, it's really hard to keep open while I paint from it. REALLY hard, because if you get large and heavy enough items to hold both sides down, inevitably the items obscure parts of the page you are painting from!

Its size can be an advantage, though. I purchased this at the National Gallery in Washington, on a midday jaunt during a conference, then went back for the next conference presentation. When the speaker turned out to be droningly boring, I brought out this tiny book and paged through it inconspicuously under the table. Could I have done that with Janet Backhouse's monumental work? I think not...;)

The selections are wonderful, and they're usefully broken down into sections based on content--excellent when you need to find a quick animal or floral image for a border, a rendering of a king or queen, or a picture of a dragon or other supernatural being. Not so excellent when you need to find an example of, say, a late 1400's eastern French book of hours (there are many, just not in any kind of chronological or geographical order). But then, there are other resources that do that. This book is interesting for its variety, its excellent reproductions, and its well-selected and unusual miniatures.

An Exemplar for the keen-eyed!
Excellent reproduction of a number of styles, with reasonable commentary. Very valuable for me as a newbie, to provide a sense of medieval style and composition. The size is at once very handy and very frustrating.

Ridding Your Home Of Spiritual Darkness
Published in Paperback by Wagner Publications Inc. (01 April, 1999)
Authors: Chuck D. Pierce and Rebecca Wagner Sytsema
Average review score:

An Excellent Guide to Spiritually Cleansing Your Home
This book gives a biblically based step-by-step guide on how to prepare to rid your home of evil and how to rid your home of evil. The author gives examples of spiritually cleansing homes from his life and the lives of others. He even shows how evil can sometimes be hidden and shows how to uncover it.

An absolute neccessity in a Christian's home
This is the best "how to" book on ridding your home, office, living space, car, etc. of demonic influences. You may not have thought that "pretty little vase Aunt May brought back from Russia" was demonic but it very well could be. You are taught through balanced biblical teaching that you need to "spiritually house clean" where you are living. This book travels with us when we go abroad and is a mainstay of our home library. If you do not get this book you may be in for trouble that you could and should have avoided. BUY IT NOW!!!!!

A great spiritual warfare reference...
This book is a wonderful resource for anyone trying to understand more about spiritual warfare and its application to things we buy, places we live, and the actions we or our bloodline have done. Buying a ceramic cat in a voodoo shop will surely bring spiritual darkness on the home. I have prayed in various homes that were oppressed by spirit(s) of darkness and found this oppression tied to articles people owned as well as things that have happened on the land even before the home was built.

Rebecca Wagner Sytsema and Chuck D. Pierce have written a great Scripturally based book that is a must have reference for those folks who want to keep their homes free of demonic oppression.

Bond on Set: 007 Filming Die Another Day
Published in Paperback by Boxtree Ltd (February, 2003)
Authors: Greg Williams, Pierce Brosnan, and Michael G. Wilson
Average review score:

Rather Disappointing!
Some great pictures, I won't deny, but particularly, my expectations were way beyond that what I could get from this book. Most of the pictures are in plain old B&W, instead of bein in living colors. The great majority don't even have a subtitle, therefore, we get a little lost sometimes. Besides, as this book was supposed to be something like a filming diary, it could depict much more behind-the-scenes stills, making of candids and so on, and even could show some text in it. I think if you only like to see pictures then the book will be ok, but if you're a die hard fan, searching for news about the filming of the picture, then this book will be the wrong choice. I think maybe to those photo admirers the book will be a disappointing, so, I wouldn't recommed it at all. I am quite disappointed myself!

A Unique Look at the Set of Bond
The most recent James Bond films have had 'making of' books published to coincide with the films cinematic release, and it seemed that Die Another Day would be no different. However, Greg Williams 'Bond On Set' isn't quite a 'making of' book, it's something more special.

Past 'making of' books are a mixture of text and pictures, with the latter receiving the least attention. With Bond on Set Williams has reversed that factor and provided a book that is mostly a compilation of pictures.

At first, the change did cause disappointment. I wanted to read behind the scenes stories, find out little pieces of trivia about Die Another Day, and hear of complications and unexpected successes. However, Williams' brilliance with a camera, described by producer Michael G Wilson in his 'forward', really eclipsed my initial disappointment.

While promotional pictures from the book have already been circulated across the Internet, some of the best photos are definitely found within the book. Look no further than the Williams' photos of actress Rosamund Pike to highlight his skill; these are definitely the best photos of Rosamund published to date. Other behinds the scenes photos are just as unique, and seem to have definitely benefited from David Tattersall's cinematography.

Disappointment aside, Pierce Brosnan's small introduction really sums up the book, "never before have we seen back stage intimacies of a Bond movie in such a classic book as this."

Filled and Thrilled with pictures of Die Another Day
Bond on Set: Fiiming Die Another Day is perhaps one of the most unique 007 books on the movie ever. When you open it up don't expect to see text. This book is filled over the top with behind the scenes pictures of the cast and crew. Greg Williams does an absolutely fantastic job of showing off the film. Pictures include Rosamund Pike in her fencing suit, Michael G. Wilson in his cameo, Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Rick Yune, Toby Stephens and many more. From the forward by Michael G. Wilson to the end of hundreds of pictures, this book is a treasure to all Bond fans!

Spider-Man and Iron Man: Sabotage
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (September, 1998)
Authors: Pierce Askegren and Danny Fingeroth
Average review score:

DoomZZZZZZZ Day
This book was difficult to finish, the first one was better but not great either. As a big fan of spiderman, Iron Man and Dr Doom. I expected more. Too much time spent with the B.O.R.I.N.G acronym evildoers. Doom only showed up at the end, was thwarted, and will return for book 3

Great Team-up of Spidey and Iron Man
Perhaps the best of the Doom's Day trilogy. I've always belived Spider-Man would make a great Avenger and this novel shows that he works well with other Avengers like Iron Man. It's a great book full of science fiction concepts together with elements of the spy genre. A must for any reader who enjoys strong character-driven stories, and this book is certainly one of them.

the best of the Doom's Day books
I gotta say I found this trilogy to be uneven, but this was the best one. I bet it's because Askegren did more work on this than the other two (his name is first), as he's a much better writer than Fingeroth & Fein (who are the worst kind of hacks). I especially liked the way Doom was handled, even though he wasn't in it much.
